
Product Description This book assesses the phenomenon of international framework agreements (IFAs), examining their implementation and impact around the world as well as their promotion of ILO standards. This volume includes contributions from fifteen international specialists to give a comprehensive discussion of the 80-plus IFAs that existed in July 2010. About the Author ISABEL DA COSTA Economist and Senior Researcher at the Institutions et Dynamiques Historiques de l'Economie research unit of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, located at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan near Paris, France. She teaches industrial relations at the University of Paris X Nanterre. Her research and publication themes include industrial relations theories, comparative industrial relations and industrial relations developments at the national, European and global levels. MICHAEL FICHTER Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Labour Relations at the Department of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. He is also on the teaching staff of the Global Labour University. He has published widely both on German trade unions and labour relations as well as on labour issues in the process of European expansion. His current research is on the implementation of framework agreements in global production networks. STEVE DAVIES Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Global Labour Research at the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University, United Kingdom. He is a former trade union official with a civil service union in the United Kingdom. His recent research has focused on transnational trade union cooperation and union responses to public sector reform. NIKOLAUS HAMMER Lecturer in Employment Studies at the Centre for Labour Market Studies at the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He has published articles on industrial relations with regard to IFAs. Current research focuses on work and employment in global value chains. MARKUS HELFEN Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Management, Chair for Inter-firm Cooperation at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. He holds a doctorate in business administration from Aachen University. His current research focuses on institutional analysis of international industrial relations, human resource management and the relevance of collective action for organization theory. DOUG MILLER Seconded from the University of Northumbria, UK, to the International Textile, Garments and Leather Workers' Federation between 2000 and 2008, where he headed the global union's research department. He is currently Inditex/ITGLWF Professor in Ethical Fashion in the Design School there. His research interests include global social dialogue in the apparel sector and aspects of wage determination in outsourced apparel supply chains. UDO REHFELDT Political Scientist and Senior Researcher at the IRES (Institut de Recherches Economiques et Sociales) in Noisy-le-Grand near Paris, France. He also teaches comparative industrial relations at the University of Paris X Nanterre. His research and publication themes include European works councils, trade unions, employee representation and collective bargaining at the national, European and global levels. RAYMOND ROBERTSON Professor of Economics at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota, United States. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Texas at Austin. His dissertation and subsequent research have focused on international development, and labour economics. He spent a year on a Fulbright grant in Mexico City studying the effects of the North American Free Trade Agreement. PAMELA K. ROBINSON Lecturer in Comparative Industrial Relations at the University of Birmingham, UK, since January 2010. She was a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Social Sciences and a Research Associate at the Centre for Business Relationships Accountability, Sustainability and Society at Cardiff University.
