Mozayik: Yon Konbit Literè ann Ayisyen = an anthology in the Haitian language

Language EXPERIENCE, Inc. announces the publication of MOZAYIK: Yon Konbit Literè ann Ayisyen that assembles twelve essays in Haitian Kreyol by Haitians and Americans about topics in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The contributors - scholars, teachers, and researchers who are well informed about Haiti, its people and their traditions - reflect on various aspects of Haitian realities. Their contributions are responses to Roger E. Savain's February 1998 invitation to join a literary konbit, a work group to produce texts written directly in Haiti's most widely spoken language to demonstrate that it serves equally well for written communication.
MOZAYIK is the first anthology of its kind, given that writers have previously used Haitian Kreyol almost exclusively for creative fiction, poetry, religious texts, musical lyrics and the dissemination of public information.
This volume specifically addresses the needs of high school and college students, in Haiti as well as the Diaspora, who seek to enrich their knowledge by reading about Haitian realities in the country's primary language. The contributors engage their topics in ways that will stimulate critical thinking among students, encouraging them to adopt the habit of carefully analyzing people, events, processes, and forms of discourse about them. However, people of all ages and walks of life who are interested in reading Haitian Kreyol to learn about Haiti's past, reflect on its present, and envision its future will find in MOZAYIK an array of informative and thought-provoking arguments.
MOZAYIK's subtitle evokes the teamwork of the konbit, the collective labor association that Haitian peasants use to clear land, plant gardens, and harvest crops. In the spirit of a traditional konbit, the volume's contributors collectively cultivate a garden of significant intellectual issues by treating Haitian Kreyol as a topic of discussion or by using the language as a tool to explore other subjects.
