This monograph studies the history of Russian joint-stock commercial banks, the main credit institutions which regulated the monetary flows in the economy and provided the integrity of economic life in pre-revolutionary Russia. The author focuses on the structure and dynamics of transactions in a commercial bank, their typology and differences from the corresponding European models. The study is based on analysis of bank annual public reports and financial statistic data. It includes unique data on the history of many Russian banks and their activities. 30 tables. Indices.
