This book launches a critical investigation of a field which has been often mentioned but inadequately explored by previous scholars of nineteenth-century English literature. By directly confronting the unacted dramas of Byron, Shelley, Clough, Arnold, Swineburne, and Hardy, Shou-ren Wang advances a theoretical argument concerning unacted drama as a literary genre while at the same time illuminating the texts which have either been neglected, or considered in other terms.
