Engineering Machanics (Statics and Dynamics)

With its fourth edition, this text moves into its fourth decade of existence. Two main goals have been pursued: to encourage working problems from first principles in order to discourage rote learning of specific methodologies, and to "open-end" the material to later course work in other engineering sciences. The author draws on his long experience teaching sophomore mechanics a course he believes is incredibly important because it demands a new level of commitment from students, because much of what comes later depends on it, and because it so richly involves mathematics, physics, computers, and common sense.
