Silvanus P Thompson wrote Calculus Made Easy sixty years ago to show that differential and integral calculus is not as difficult as the words imply, and the book's continuing popularity is evidence of his complete success. Modern and elegant integration technique have been introduced in successive editions,but the basic plan of the book remains Professor Thompson's original demonstration that once his readers have grasped the basic principles of differentiation and integration, the rest follows naturally. Silvanus P Thompson was born in 1851 and died in 1916. He was President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, first President of the London Rontgen Society and the holder of many foreign honours and degrees.
