A Most Reliable Witness: Essays in Honor of Ross Shepard Kraemer

Ross Kraemer, Professor Emerita in the Department of Religious Studies at Brown University, has been a trailblazer in the areas of women and religion, Jews and Judaism, and earliest Christianity in the ancient Mediterranean. Her astute readings and painstaking analysis of literary, epigraphic, and archaeological evidence demonstrate extensive and rigorous command of the technical scholarship. Furthermore, her relentless reconsideration of inherited models have continually defined and redefined the contours of scholarship in ancient Mediterranean religions. While much of her research focuses on women's religions in the Greco-Roman world, her interests also extend to questions of theory and method in the academic study of religion, cross-cultural and trans-historical studies of women and religion, and religion and modern media. To honor her remarkable contributions, this volume of essays was conceived and produced by students, colleagues, and friends from the total span of her career, bearing witness to the breadth of her own scholarly interests.
