The Romanov dynasty industriously created its own cult, by replacing many facts in their collective biography with legends and myths. Russian historian N. Koniaev studies the blank spots and sharp angles in the royal family history: their difficult relations with the Russian Orthodox Church, their aversion towards Russian folk and folk character, etc. The book walks us through three hundred years of Romanov rule: from Ivan the Fourth to Nicholas the Second. The book is a significantly extended version of "Pervye Romanovy: Zagadki i Mify Dinastii " (2002). It is addressed to a wide audience and includes a chronology (1534-1917) and bibliography.
