There are an immense number of printed sources about Lenin. According to the author of this book, he is in this sense the next after Christ. Most of them contain very little or nothing about Lenin as a person. This book portrays Vladimir Ul'ianov (Lenin) as a private person through the eyes of his contemporaries: his habits, character, feelings, and diseases. Gusliarov followed the genre created by V. Veresaev: the systematic collection of the testimony and documents of contemporaries ("Pushkin in his Life" and "Gogol in his Life"). Short annotations on people whose testimonies were used are presented. The documents are divided into major periods in Lenin's life: The Beginning: From Ul'ianov to Lenin; Money; Women; In the sealed car; Power; Disease and Death; Conversations with Lenin; Personality.
