The next volume in the series Traditional Spiritual Culture of the Slavs studies archaic magic remedies of protection ("obereg") of a man and his world. The author developed a semantic model of the protection spell and described its specific forms in rituals, actions, objects and rites for the first time in Slavic historiography. She also gave a description of verbal "oberegs". This monograph is based on folklore and ethnographic materials collected in field studies in Poles'e, the Ukrainian Carpathian Mts, and the Russian North. Bibliography, indices.
