This monograph studies the editing activity of the Solovki elder-scribe Sergii Shelonin which demonstrates the high standard of Russian culture of the 17th century, in particular the quality of translation of theological monuments. Shelonin is the author of several theological works, a translator, compiler and editor of many foreign works popular in Old Rus. His enlightening work was interrupted by the change of the Church policy in the 1650s and the Solovki rebellion in 1676. This book by Ol'ga Sapozhnikova (b. 1968) is based on her doctoral thesis.
