Safety of the nuclear fuel cycle

Reprocessing nuclear fuels after burn-up is considered by many an essential component of nuclear energy production. Though hazard risks associated with reprocessing plants are minor compared to those of power plants themselves, there are still numerous safety aspects to be considered. This book is devoted to a discussion of such aspects. It comprises 24 contributions by German and Austrian experts which treat the chemical and technical matters concerned. In contrast to other publications in the field, it covers not only reprocessing but also the treatment and final deposition of radiant material that cannot be recycled.
