This volume of the Editio Maior Critica of the works of Gregory of Nyssa, founded by Werner Jaeger, comprises the third and final part of the sermons of this fourth-century Church Father, which deal with a number of religious festivals as well as theological issues. The present work contains the following sermons: De deitate filii et spiritus sancti et in Abraham (ed. E. Rhein), In diem natalem (ed. F. Mann), In sanctam Pentecosten (ed. D. Teske), Adversus eos qui castigationes aegre ferunt (ed. D. Teske), and De iis qui baptismum differunt (ed. H. Polack).
The edition is based on no fewer than 159 manuscripts, a clear sign of the major influence Gregory's sermons had on the life of the Church and on the theological debate. These codices are discussed in individual introductions which analyse how they interrelate, the results of which analysis are illustrated in a Stemma. The text is printed next to the apparatus criticus, together with the apparatus fontium. The book concludes with a number of indices which provide an overview of all sources of Gregory of Nyssa's work.
