To most Canadian the Mormon presidents in Canada is relatively unimportant. Mormons in Canada are few in number, and through much of their history have been tucked away in the southwestern corner of the province of Alberta. In recent years, however, they're growing numbers and their migration to all parts of the country invite attention to their unique history and their characteristics as a people. As one inspects more closely the Mormons in Canada, several underlying themes emerge. The strongest theme in recognition that " every country we're distinctive community has its own effective contribution to make to the broad science of society,” add plain by the late Robert M MacIver in defining the scope of sociology. From this Viewpoint, the sociology and history of Canada, of the United States, and of the Mormons as a people, A continuing social religious movement, and an institutionalized Church remain incomplete without a study of Mormons in Canada. Another important theme is migration, the theme common to the history of Canadian, Americans and Mormons. In the case of the Mormons, this is cause for reflection in celebration, as they recall migration leading to the founding of Salt Lake City and the Great Basin communities in the American West, and of Mormon settlements in Southwestern Alberta. Beginning in the 1830s, Mormon migration from Canada anticipated and paralleled the movement of over a million and a half Canadians to the United States in the 19th century.
