This book talks about the unique local products, history, religion, customs and human feelings of Gumei people in regions south of the Yangtze River as well as the ups and downs in the fate of Xia Guamei. She is born in the early twentieth Century and is married to four men in her life. She experiences the war and regime changes, but still does what she wants. Her life and way of living shows another possibility to understand China in the twentieth Century.
