Lenore Coral (1939–2005) was a titan in the fields of both scholarship and librarianship. Her untimely death from cancer in March 2005 left a void in these fields that will be difficult, if not impossible, to fill. Lenore was incredibly influential in the careers of so many, even those who did not work directly with her. As a mentor to a whole generation of librarians and scholars she is unparalleled. Her passion, dedication, wise counsel, and undying friendship will be missed by all. She gave to others unselfishly, and with a tremendously warm heart under that crusty exterior. Even though she is now gone, Lenore’s force will be felt for generations to come in the many arenas in which she participated. Her tenacity, vision, passion, and wit inspired many in both the fields of musicology and music librarianship. Her legacy lives on in our libraries, our daily teaching, and in the vast world of musical knowledge and understanding to which she had so generously given of her time and energy. This collection of articles dedicated to her memory divides into three sections that focus on Lenore’s scholarly music of the eighteenth century, music libraries and collections, and new approaches to the musical canon. Many of the seventeen contributions included in the volume are the result of the individual author’s connection with Lenore, or were projects that she had been directly involved with, either as dissertation advisor, committee member, or interested observer.
