The collection contains the materials of the debate of the 1960-s concerning the authenticity of " The Song of Igor's Campaign”. The debate was initiated by the hypothesis of a famous historian A. Zimin according to which "The Song" was not created in the 12th, but in the 18th century and was just a literary forgery. The basis of the collection forms the transcript of the three-day discussion of A. Zimin’s initial monograph in the Department of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in May, 1964. The introduction to the transcript by L. Sokolova includes the correspondence among Russian and foreign Slavicists on the subject and shows how dramatic and significant the argument was not only for the medieval studies but for all Slavic studies at large.
