Its main purpose is to teach how to apply the "process of translating thought and thought-language" into effective written communication, from the basics through writing "across the curriculum,"including writing research papers. Because students today are audio-visually conditioned,the book emphasizes the language differences when translating spoken and thought-language into written language.
