After the Koran, the Hadith is the second most authoritative source text for the Islamic religion. In this work, Islamic tradition sets down how Mohammed lived, interpreted, and applied the Koran in daily life in order to provide guidance to the faithful. The Hadith provides an account of Mohammed's pronouncements, instructions, and judgments about a number of questions. It also sheds light on Mohammed's behavior, his manner of action in fulfilling religious duties, his practical attitude in applying religious guidelines, and his attitude toward his community's actions. Theodor Khoury, whose Koran translation enjoys high repute in the Muslim world, has compared the most important Arabic Hadith collections, translated them, and compiled them into a German edition.
