
Analyzes the initial impact of reforms of pay determination systems on pay dispersion in the public service in Australia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. These reforms suggest that pay systems in the public service will move towards a greater emphasis on individual or collective performance-related pay, leading to an increase in pay dispersion. The three countries examined here provide an interesting insight in this regard, although their pay reforms are still in the implementation phase. The results of the analysis underline the importance of analyzing changes in pay dispersion in the public service affectin individuals and professional groups, as well as comparisons between the sexes and between the public and private sectors.
