The process of the ocean shipping in Ming dynasty,as a political decision-making, is analysized in the book from the multi-dimensional perspective such as political history, intellectual and cultural history and local history. The intellectuals thinking of shipping is regarded as an important factor in the analysis of the maritime decision-making in Ming dynasty, which reveals the interaction between ideology and culture and this political decision-making. The author is good at making rational selection and use of original historical material about modern ocean shipping. What it describs and the examples in it are not involved in previous study.
