This publication contains information on current trends and developments in the world coal sector, including world coal production and coal reserves, coal demand by type (hard, steam, coking), hard coal trade and hard coal prices. It gives detailed country specific data on coal markets in the 30 OECD member countries, as well as statistics for selected non-OECD coal producing and consuming countries; and also selected non-OECD countries summary statistics on hard coal supply and end-use statistics for about 40 countries and regions worldwide, with coal balances and coal trade data for selected years for 16 major non-OECD coal producing and consuming countries. The data are compiled from IEA/OECD energy statistics and balances databases. During 2005, total coal production increased by 6.4 per cent, a figure well above the ten year average growth trend of 2.6 per cent although lower than the two previous years.
