舊五代史

The book, originally named as the History of the Five Dynasties and also called the Book of Liang, Tang, Jin, Han and Zhou, is a historical book ordered by the Emperor Taizu, chief-edited and supervised by Xue Juzheng(912-981) and co-edited by Lu Duoxun, Hu Meng, Zhang Zhan, Li, Liu Jian, Li Mu and Li Jiuling, etc. named as the Old History of the Five Dynasties Periods by the descendants to distinguish it from the New History of the Five Dynasties. It took one and half a year from April of the 6th Kaibao year of the Emperor Taizu in 973 to the October of the next leap year. The quick completion was achieved due to the priority attached by the Emperor Taizu, the high standard of compiling team and abundant historical reference for it was not long before the Song dynasty. The five dynasties were all genuinely recorded, and Fan Zhi also collocated the records and compiled the brief introduction based on the genuine records, that is, Overview of the Five Dynasties in the Years of Jianlong to provide great convenience for the historical research.
