After reviewing the period since the double beta decay was investigated theoretically shortly after the introduction of the neutrino, Klapdor-Kleingrothaus (Max-Planck Institut fnr Kernphysik) reproduces some 250 technical journal articles from the 1930s to the 1990s that illustrate developments. He presents them in sections on the early days until the gauge theory era; nuclear matrix elements; effective neutrino masses from double beta decay, neutrino mass models, and cosmological parameters; other beyond-standard-model physics; the experimental race from the late 1980s to the future; and the future. He does not provide an index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
