The historical records in chronological style with 104 chapters and about 4280,000 words in total was compiled by Tan Qian, in the end of Ming dynasty and the beginning of Qing dynasty, who though born from poor family earned his life from labor and literary work. He compiled this book in reference to Ming Shi Lu and many other materials for he thought that most of records of Ming dynasty were lack of truths. It records the history from the first year of Zi Yuan calendar in 1328 to the first year of Hongguang of south Ming in 1645. The content of the 70 years of Wanli took one third of the whole book. It directly describes some important historical truth that had been avoided in the Ming Shi Lu; the author arranged his own view together with the comments of critics on the significant events in Ming dynasty; and it makes elaborate textual research on the historical truth mentioned. The book was not published in Qing dynasty and KMT, therefore, it was not revised. In 1958, the Zhonghua Book Company issued Zhang Zongxiangs revised version according to the Jiangs version of Yanfen Caotang and Lus version of Baojing Lou.
