Berinareu: the religious epic of the Tirurais

Excerpt from the Foreword: "On the title-page the Berinareu is called an oral tradition. This was done to point out that this religious epic has never been put into writing. This Tirurais namely have been until recently preliterate. Like other preliterate cultural communities, they are by this characterization of special interest to the academic discipline of cultural anthropology and folklore. No wonder then, it is this discipline that is the first to take interest in the study of this central piece of Tirurai culture.' -Fr. Clement Wein
