This is an anthology of informal essays, and it composed of two volumes. In the first volume, the author expressed his nostalgia for his respectable teachers and old friends, such as Feng Yidai, Xiong Bingming, Cai Qijiao, the renowned scholar Wei Feide, the poet Ai Ji and also his friend in youth Liu Yu. Those people have passed away, leaving their colorful lives in the flying time. The second volume is about the travel notes taken by Bei Dao while he was in Chile, Nicaragua, Berlin, Hong Kong and Davis town of the United States. Those places are characterized of different history and culture, different beliefs and poems, and also different representative figures including Neruda, Parra and George couple. Bei Dao traveled far away to see the whole world, and what we learn from Bei Dao is the world with his unique experiences and deep understanding.
