Rabbi Shlomo Goren (1917-1994) belongs to a generation of giants in rabbinic leadership. His life story is also the story of the Jewish people in the twentieth century. It begins in Eastern Europe and continues to the Jewish settlement in Israel, its military and defense. Rabbi Goren combined scholarship with courage, wit and intelligence, and left a deep mark as both the IDF's chief rabbi and chief rabbi of Israel. His independence of thought placed him as a genius and designer of Jewish modern law. This is his autobiography based on original material written, recorded and documented by Rabbi Goren himself.
