The Persian An Shigao was the first known Buddhist missionary and translator in China as well as the progenitor of a remarkable Chinese family. This original study sheds new light on him and his family through an analysis of sources never before considered. This book is part of a series by the Italian School of East Asian Studies (ISEAS) research institute, which focuses on the history, culture, literature, and religion of East Asia.
