This biography of one of the leaders of Ireland's 1916 Rising deals with Connolly s activities as soldier, agitator, propagandist, orator, socialist organizer, pamphleteer, trade union leader and insurgent. It traces the evolution of his thinking as social democrat, republican, revolutionist, syndicalist, revolutionary socialist, and insurrectionist. The book covers his years in Edinburgh, Liverpool, America and Ireland, and is based largely on Connolly s prolific writings in 27 journals and in some 200 letters. On May 12, 1916, he was executed in Kilmainham Jail in Dublin.
