The book contains three parts. The first part deals with cultural debates. The author reviews the integration and conflicts of various cultural trends. In the second part the author focuses on modern philosophy by exploring the views and significance of famous philosophers of modern China. In the final section of the book, entitled The Classical Wisdom, the author combs the representative views of various different Chinese classical philosophies. Interweaved with historical reviews, the author reveals the types of problems encountered in the modern studies of Confucianism, including the reviews and outlook of Chinese modern thinking, Liang Shumings views on Eastern and Western cultures, Feng Youlans cultural theories, the modern theories of neo-Confucianism, resolving tension between tradition and modernity, and sinology studies in the 1990s. The book probes the development and transaction of the spirit of the times as well as social realities in modern China. It is of significant importance for the study of Chinese philosophy and sinology.
