Britain and the Balance of Power in North America, 1815-1908

This book is not a history of Anglo-American relations; nor is it even a history of British policy towards the United States. It is rather an attempt to follow one particular theme in British policy--the problems raised by thinking about and planning for the possibility of a future war with the United States, and their general influence upon official British policy towards the United States.
