The Varieties of Religious Experience is a book that observes the role of religion from the angle of personal experience. The author discusses religious experience such as being converted to a religion, repentance and mysticism by taking the religious experience from Voltaire, Whitman, Emerson, Luther and other ideologists as examples. Though the topic being discussed relates to serious philosophy of religion, plenty of individual biographies are analyzed vividly and appealingly in the book, full of the interest of a novel.
