The book collects Giacomo Leopardis essays written in 1823-1825, most of which adopt dialogues to express his philosophical views with symbolic historical figures or fictional characters. Besides, the book expresses his constant pursuit of ideals and discussion of life value although he tends to be pessimistic because of failure in ideals. Some other essays are compiled into the ""Record of Random Thoughts"".
