Culture and Society (1780-1950) is the work that establishes the fame of Raymond Williams. Since its first publication in 1958, the book has been republished for many times and translated into many languages, thus is reputed as a pioneering work of the British New Leftists, and a classic in the field of cultural studies as well. Taking industry, democracy, class, art and culture as the five keywords, the author of this book selects 40 famous writers and thinkers who were active in the British intellectual and literary world from the second half of the 18th century to the mid-20th century. By analyzing their dissertations on the industrial revolution and cultural issues, the book combs the changes in cultural concepts, and the reforms of social politics and economic structure, and depicts the important traditions that influence the cultural ideas in the 20th century.
