The Book of Reykjahólar the last of the great medieval legendaries

Somtimes medieval folk tales and literature are preserved in the most unlikely places - in this case a late medieval legendary which was compiled in early sixteenth century Iceland. This text preserves a great deal of otherwise lost Low German saints lives, legends and folk-tales. This book is an examines the development of German hagiography, the sources of the text and its production in Iceland.
