The record of major construction projects of GULAG-GULZhDDS-Glavgidrostroi of the USSR is documented in the materials included in this volume. All these projects were supervised by the OGPU-NKVD-MVD and closely watched over by Stalin personally. In Stalin's era, those projects were called "Velikie Stalinskie Stroiki" (Stalin's communist construction projects, etc). This collection contains documents on several projects: tunnels, canals, rail roads, gold extraction: Belomorsko-Baltiiskii, Moscow-Volga, Volgo-Don, BAM, North-Pechora, etc. Appendices include biographical data of staff of these projects, statistical data about prisoner-workers, name index, bibliography.
