Redeployment is a maiden work of Phil Klay, also the work winning the National Book Award for Fiction. The 12 short stories selected have similar themes and they focus on the living conditions of USA soldiers at the frontlines of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan or those who have left the wars. The hell like battlefield experiences make them cannot face life or live the ordinary life. Phil Klay pointedly penetrates into the inner world of different characters in the Iraq War, including ordinary, undertaker, psychological warfare soldiers, and padres. Almost without exception, they nonchalantly hate wars but just can't get rid of the bloodthirsty army honor; their faith comes from the absurd enemy-self setting and imagination; they are full of shame for the role they play and bear a strange and scared alienation to the enemy. In spicy and sharp language, Klay depicts the double slaughter of wars on the body and soul of soldiers and records the soldiers seeking meaning in vain in the absurd and terror.
