This book is based on the personal experience of Solomon Northup who was born a free man in New York State but was kidnapped and started the slave life. The publication of the book affected the Abolitionist Movement and the modern history of the United States. It has been listed in the history textbook of USA and the required readings for students, known as the eternal classic promoting the abolitionism together with Uncle Tom's Cabin.
