In 1980s, the photographer Ruan Yizhong travels everywhere in Taiwan and takes countless pictures of the touching moments of common people's daily life. This book is a collection of 81 pictures. For the first time, it tells the stories behind every picture and shows Taiwan in the transformation from rural society to industrial and commercial society. Ruan Yizhong grows up in the village of Taiwan. In his childhood, he cannot understand the hardships of his parents and tries to escape from the countryside to the city. After he grows up, he finds it's just the people and things most close to the land that support him to make every step in the increasingly uncertain world. The rural sceneries and human feelings recorded in this book are already far away today. Behind these simple images and texts, we find the long lost simplicity and elegance.
