The main purpose of this book is to explore how the Chinese people since the late Qing transfer from ""normal"" to ""morbid"", and how did they be observed, transformed and cured as ""patients"". The ""sick man of Asia"" is either a bullying metaphor for Chinese people, and it also a power for social change of nationalistic style. In this sense, the ""curing"" is not just a simple medical procedure, but becomes the object gathering political and social and institutional change, the individual healing behavior has thus become part of political movements.
