The Kulasekhara Perumals of Travancore : history and state formation in Travancore from 1671 to 1758

This book presents the history of the kingdom of Travancore between 1671 and 1758. Under Martanda Varma (1729-1758) this kingdom, now the southern part of modern Kerala, underwent rapid changes in both the army and administration. The old established kshatriya aristocracy gave way to new groups. The political scene in Kerala too, rapidly changed after the failed attempts of the Dutch to curb the growing influence of Martanda Varma on Kerala politics. At the end of Martanda Varma's reign he had conquered the major part of Kerala.
