This book is a novel written by Wang Shuo in early 1990s. It describes the increasingly strained relationship between a man Ma Linsheng who has lost his wife and his son. When treating his son, this commis who muddles along in the office every day sometimes uses violence, sometimes begs for mercy and sometimes calls each other brothers with his son enthusiastically. But finally there is still an impassable gulf between father and son.
