Since the late-1990s Turkey has emerged as a significant economic power. Never colonised and straddling the continents of Europe and Asia, it plays a strategically important role in a region of increasing instability. The book covers the 2001 financial crisis, the "golden age" (2002-07) of stable growth and foreign investment, the 2008 crisis and subsequent recovery, and the recent years marked by a faltering economy hampered by political instability.
