A collection of papers from a meeting of the Research Seminar in Archaeology and Related Subjects held at the Institute of Archaeology, University of London in June 1980. The papers look at death from different disciplinary perspectives and through the attitudes and practices of different societies ranging from the earliest hominids through ancient and modern historical cultures to present day New Guinea, Africa, and Brazil. An interesting feature of the book is its scrutiny of methodologies used in research into the burial customs of other cultures.
