The story is set in St. Petersburg in 19th century. Anna, the heroin, met Vronsky, a young military officer and fell in love with him. This was found by Annas husband. Anna asked to divorce him but was refused and threatened not ever see her son again. Therefore Anna ran away with Vronsky. After a short period of happy life, the coldness and boredom following enthusiasm was the last straw. Anna missed her son but she couldnt stand up to the hypocritical and cruel moral pressure in the upper society. However she couldnt get rid of the noble world either. At last she killed herself on the railway out of contradiction and desperation.
