This book is one of the most important collections of essays of the famous French philosopher, esthetician, Alain. This book speaks the truth from different angles. The troubles of the life are mostly self-made. If they are self-made, they may have self-destruction. The author accepts Descartes' argument that if we can not control the physiological response, we reach the purpose to overcome the emotional impulse. Secondly, some troubles, such as regret and fear of the unknown future are purely imaginative and are false. Again, when a person does nothing, the imagination is particularly active, and if we are always in the pursuit, approaching a realistic goal, we will not engage in the unnecessary imagination.
