After the decease of Tang Degang, Modern Chinese Oral History Society began to sort out his manuscripts, dissertations, poems and letters. They reedited some posthumous manuscripts first, so this book could be published, and we could see the Warlords of The Republican History in the Republican General History Plan of Tang Detang. It mainly describes the political chaos after Yuan Shih-kai died, depicting the contending for power and profit between warlords and politicians, the standing out of Duan Qirui with power and the process of his grasping the overall situation. It comprehensively discusses the historical issues of the strive between the office of the President and the State Council, attending the WWI against Germany, Xuantong restoration, Sun Yat-sens establishment of the protect-constitution military government in Canton, besides, it also talks about the rise and fall of the Gui clique and Fengtian clique.
