The book is composed of three parts. The first part is about ""consciousness"". In this part, the author researches on the development of individual consciousness, which is compared to the subjective spirit in spiritual philosophy. ""Consciousness"" is the first stage of the development of individual spirit, and ""consciousness"" itself could be further divided into three phases, namely sensuous certainty, perception and intelligence. The second part is about ""self-consciousness"". In The Phenomenology of Mind, the overall development from consciousness to absolute knowledge is based on the dialectical movement of sublation and ""alienation"", which means to ""alienate"" self-consciousness into the object and further to ""sublate"" the object. From ""self-consciousness"" to ""rationality"", the development of individual consciousness apparently repeats the development of human consciousness, and a series of social ideology shows up.
