Efrem of Pereiaslavl was one of the first monks in the Kiev-Pechora monastery, then after a conflict with Prince Iziaslav Iaroslavovich, he escaped to Byzantium, and returned to Rus in the early 1090s as a metropolitan. He was known for his pro-Western orientation. This is a biography of this religious figure and politician, which is full of contrasts, ups and downs, greatness and disgrace, power and helplessness.
